A Dedication to Matthew

Yesterday I had a new perspective and a new outlook on life, and I had a new vision for this blog. Little did I know that time I created that post that something life changing would happen just less than a day later. I would love to say that this post is going to be upbeat and positive like they usually are, but sadly it won’t be, it’s about to get serious.

Today I woke up and went about with my day like any other day. I won’t go into detail, but long story short, one thing happened after another, and I just had a bad attitude about myself and felt self-pity.

Anyway my attitude completely changed when I heard a rumor that someone that I work with died. At first, I thought it was just a rumor, no way it could be true. So then my friend and I had done some digging and found out that the rumor was actually true. We found out that someone I work with had committed suicide.

His name was Matthew, he just turned 18, just graduated high school, and he had the rest of his life waiting for him. He was such a sweet, lovable, and sassy young man, with a beautiful soul, and I am still in shock that this has happened. I don’t know how he did it, and I don’t know why, but I can’t help but feeling like there was something I could have done. In all honesty, there was probably nothing I could have done, but I just wish that I could have reminded him that I would be there for him if he needed someone to talk to. I can’t help but feeling like I failed him.

I’m going to be honest, I don’t have a whole lot of experience with death, and I am very grateful for that. The last death I had that really hit me hard was my grandfather and that was almost 3 years ago, and it was kind of sudden, yet expected at the same time. I’ve heard of suicides happening in my area before, but it was never anyone I actually knew one on one.

Matthew, I wish you knew how loved you were and how much joy you brought into our lives, and just how it was a blessing to know who you were. There is only one of you, and you will never be replaced or forgotten. You will truly be missed by many. Fly high like a bird.

Rest In Peace Matthew.

A New Perspective

When I first started this blog, I wanted to focus it solely on makeup, even though I’m self taught and I know everything I know from watching YouTube videos, and that’s how I really came up with the name, Beauty Amateur Hour. But here I am and a half later thinking of more than just makeup.

Yes, I would love to have makeup be the main focus of this blog, but my life isn’t just about makeup. It is definitely one of my hobbies, but there is more to life, and more beauty in life, than just makeup. There is beauty in makeup, beauty in fashion, beauty in entertainment, beauty in travel, beauty in you, beauty in me, beauty in literally everything, even the things that may not be even considered beautiful because life is beautiful.

I don’t even know how I got to this conclusion, I guess it just kind of came to me the more I typed this. And yes, life can be hard for anyone and everyone, but we have to make the best of it and once you are able to get over whatever hard time you are going through, I hope you can see the beauty in life and appreciate it.

I would still love to have beauty as a main topic in this blog, but I really want to post more than just makeup, I just need to stop being lazy and get back into posting daily again.

As much as I want to change the name of this blog, I think I’m going to keep it the way it is. However, it’s going to have a little more meaning than it did before. I think I discussed the beauty part enough already but as for the amateur hour, well I feel like I am an amateur at beauty, fashion, travel, life, just about anything. And that is what it means to me.

Sorry for this late night thought, it was just something I was thinking, and something I wanted to share and change, or expand about this blog. I will be continuing my 100 Days of Makeup on my Instagram, once I stop being lazy, and after that ends, I plan to include more than just makeup on Instagram. Also, I’m thinking about starting a Facebook page, any thoughts on that? Thank you for reading and thank you for always being here. I truly appreciate it!

Sand Cloud First Impressions

Alright, I have another first impression post for a brand that has grown popular over the internet and that brand is called Sand Cloud. If you’ve never heard of it, Sand Cloud is a company that sells T-shirts, towels, stickers, water bottles, …. and I think that’s really it, but I think they have plans to expand their range of products in the fall. But anyway, they donate 10% of each sale and it goes right back to the ocean. Well not literally, but it goes back to organizations that help save marine life.

So now that we have a little idea of what the brand sells and what they stand for, I’m going to do a mini haul and give you my first impressions of these products.

I guess we’ll start with the towel. The towel I bought is the Wanderlust towel and it’s just a nice rainbow tye dye pattern. I’m not going to lie, when I first saw these towels on the website, just with the way they looked, the towels look like they’re just really thin, almost like a bedsheet. But as I opened it up in the mail and got a feel for it, literally, I found that it’s actually thicker than I thought it would be. If I were to compare it to anything, I’d say it’s almost like a good quality table cloth. This towel is definitely better than I thought it would be.

I also got some T-shirts, well one T-shirt and a tank top to be exact, but my first impression is the same for both of them. Now as far as the design, I think it looks really just colorful and perfect for the summer season. I especially like how on the tank top the logo is very visible and clearly stands out. It doesn’t stand out as much on the mint green shirt, but it all looks cute. As for the quality of the shirt, it’s not my favorite. I was really hoping that the shirts would be soft and just thinner, especially for the price you’re paying. However, it’s thick and almost stiff-like, but I think after a couple of washes, it’ll soften up.

Lastly, I ordered some of their stickers. I’m going to be honest, I was a little bit disappointed because I thought the stickers were going to be bigger, they just looked bigger on the product photo on the website, but I think maybe that’s because they zoomed in for it. Also, in my order, it said I was going to be getting 6 of those stickers, the ones that say “#Savethefishies.” However, I only got 4 of those, and got 4 of the other stickers that have the Sand Cloud logo on it. So yes, I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t get what I ordered, or at least what I thought I ordered, but I kind of got over it.

Now here is the funny part. If you have heard of Sand Cloud before, you’d know that they really advertise themselves and they have a brand ambassador program, in which I think they accept everyone. They give you a promo code, and you share that everywhere, the people that use your code get a discount and you get paid. However, I don’t believe you actually get paid in cash, but in store credit. Well anyway, I didn’t apply because I didn’t want to be an ambassador for something I didn’t believe in or didn’t completely love. But they sent me bracelets that they only send to their brand ambassadors, and they sent me a little card that said welcome to the brand ambassador program. I don’t think it’s official yet because I don’t have a code, but I just thought it was strange. I’ve thought about it, but I wanted to wait until I for sure knew I wanted to represent this brand.

So all in all, I was very pleased with the towel, I liked the stickers, and I liked the design for the shirts, but I need to wait a couple of washes to give you my full review on them. Thank you so much for reading!

Pura Vida Bracelets First Impressions

Hello all, I am back, and I am hoping that I’ll be staying back and actually post on this blog. I have just been so busy with a hectic work schedule that I have found it hard to even keep up with my 100 Day Makeup Challenge on Instagram. I have skipped a lot of days, including today, but I am making it my goal to finish it before October. After the challenge is over, I would like to include some fashion into my posts, as well as beauty. But until then, I will just start posting about it on here.

So with that being said, I decided to do a first impressions post on the brand, Pura Vida Bracelets. I have seen a lot of fashion and accessories brands come up on my Instagram feed and this company was one of them. I don’t know what it was, but it intrigued me.

Now for you that have not heard of this brand, Pura Vida Bracelets is a company from Costa Rica that sells different types of hand-made bracelets, and also sell some other cool things like necklaces, rings, anklets, towels, and more.

But what is awesome about this company is that 10% of each purchase goes back to help Costa Rican artisans find jobs. It’s just nice to know that a portion of the money made from sales is going to something that actually helps people. And something that’s even better is that they have some special bracelets that have a cause, and one dollar from the sale of that particular bracelet goes to charities for causes like saving the turtles, dolphins, breast cancer awareness, pancreatic cancer awareness, and so much more.

But here are items I bought:

The Solid White Bracelet.

The Rose Gold Sun Periwinkle Bracelet.

The Anxiety Disorder Awareness Bracelet.

The Lost at Sea Anklet.

The Silver Wave Ring.

And I’m going to be honest, I didn’t order/pay for this one but it was in my package, I don’t know if it was supposed to be a bonus or if it was an accident but I also got the Grapevine Bracelet.

Here are what the items look like on me:

So far I like them, no they’re not glamorous luxury bracelets, but for the price, I’d say the quality of them is pretty good. I’m not going to lie, you could probably make these at home with supplies from the craft store, but so far I think the quality of each product is consistent and unique. These products give me that young, beach girl vibe, which I like, I never wore jewelry like this when I was younger.

On the website, it says that these are waterproof and wax coated, making them more long-lasting, which I have yet to test.

So far, I do like these products but I will make sure to come back in a few days with a full review and I’ll tell you if I would buy these again. Thank you so much for reading!

An Update….

So it’s been a good month since I last posted. I hope everyone is doing well, I’ve been thinking about everything regarding my blog and social media, and I’ve come to a temporary decision that I think will be best for me.

So a few months ago, I became full timer at work, meaning that I’ll be working more, and I’ll have a limited availability to do other things outside of work. I’ve been trying to make it work and balance everything and I now realize that I can’t do it all.

I made it a goal for myself for this year to make sure I do better when it comes to my blog and social media and YouTube, and so far I haven’t. So here is the plan I have come up with.

I decided that I will be taking a temporary break from YouTube. It’s been really hard to find the time to film videos and edit with my busy and unpredictable schedule. Don’t worry, it’s only temporary, I’m hoping that I’ll be back in time for some fun Halloween tutorials.

But I think I started YouTube too soon, and as soon as I started it, that’s when my blog started going downhill. So now I will be mainly focusing on my blog and my Instagram.

Im still going strong with my 100 Days of Makeup Challenge on Instagram, so you should definitely check that out. I do have a really cool travel log I wanted to upload to my YouTube and I think I will still do that, I just won’t be making much more videos after that. However if you guys request I make a video such as a tutorial, review, anything like that, I would be more than happy to do that.

I hope you understand and I want to thank you all for still being here for me even when I’m not here. Thank you all so much!

100 Days of Makeup? What’s Next?

I know what you’re thinking, how come you haven’t posted your 100 Days of Makeup Challenge? Did you give up already? Yes I am still doing it, and no I haven’t given up. I’ve just been keeping it on my Instagram, so if you’re interested in seeing the looks I come up with, definitely go check it out and don’t forget to give it a follow, but only if you feel like it.  I just thought it was too repetitive for me to post on there and then again on here. I’m still in the process of trying to get back into blogging and I’m brainstorming ideas for my YouTube channel as well, so be ready for those coming up.

But in the meantime, here is a little sneak peek of  what’s coming up in the future. I did use this look for my 10th Day of my 100 Days of Makeup Challenge, and the products are listed in that picture.
